We are thrilled to announce that we are one of 10 winners of the 2020 GSK IMPACT Awards! Over 400 charities across the UK were considered for the prestigious awards and we’re overjoyed to be recognised alongside nine other charities doing inspiring work.
The GSK IMPACT Awards acknowledge the outstanding work of small and medium sized charities working to improve health and wellbeing in communities across the UK. Winners receive £30,000 in unrestricted funding as well as expert support and leadership development provided by The King’s Fund.
Our application focused on our mission to spread knowledge about the power of personal music for anyone affected by dementia. We want everyone with dementia to have a unique, personalised playlist, and for everyone who cares for them to know how to use that personalised playlist.
Katie Pinnock, Director of UK and Ireland Charitable Partnerships at GSK, said about us:
This exciting young charity uses the power of personal music playlists to help people with dementia unlock memories. It has taken a simple concept and used it to deliver profound results, providing a way to connect to the past helping families living with dementia. Its evidence-based approach is highly impressive, with trials in hospitals and care homes showing that people with dementia need less medication when Playlist for Life is included in their care.
Sarah Metcalfe, Chief Executive of Playlist for Life, said:
‘We are over the moon to have won a GSK Award, and proud to be considered in the same league as the nine other charities doing great work to improve people’s health and wellbeing.
It has been a whirlwind six years, since Sally Magnusson founded the charity to share with other families what the Magnussons had to discover by accident: personal music can cut through dementia to reach the person within. It helps manage symptoms and makes people happy.
Playlist for Life has come a long way in a short time, and we are proud to be part of the growing music and dementia movement, and the many friends and colleagues we now work with. We will use the GSK prize money and leadership opportunities to take the charity to the next level and reach even more people with the power of personal music.’
None of what we do at Playlist for Life would be possible without our incredible supporters, and we share this award with you. Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook profiles where we’ll be sharing our news and celebrating with the other winning charities.
