Julie's Playlist
Indigo Girls – Power of Two
This is for my wife, Anna. It’s our song and it’s one we belt out whenever we’re on a long drive or dancing about in the kitchen.
Double Violin Concerto in D minor BWV 1043 – JS Bach
My late father was a fantastic violinist. And while I never reached his standard, this was something we played together. The first movement is my favourite – I can still play the first few lines off by heart – and it always makes me think of playing duets with him and hoping I make him proud.
La Mer – Charles Trenet
I have a lifelong love of France and the French language. We have a tiny wee village house in the South of France and this song always make me think of our first drive to the beach each holiday, past vines and olive trees, before that magical moment when you see the turquoise sea for the first time.
Honor to us all – Mulan Soundtrack
Once each of our (17!) nephews and nieces were old enough, it was an Auntie treat to take them to the cinema, invariably to the most recent Disney film. I think we had quite a handful of little ones when we went to Mulan and this song has become a firm favourite (even now as they’re in their twenties) with one nephew particularly relishing the lines sung by Mulan’s ancient grandmother.
Bohemian like you – The Dandy Warhols
Talking of Disney, when I worked for that company for several years, I had to travel to the ‘mother ship’ in Los Angeles regularly. I made a driving playlist to keep me company while I crawled up the I-405 to the Disney offices and this one never failed to get me singing along.
