Virginia Plain – Roxy Music
The energy, invention and verve of this always gets me fired up. Takes me back to being 16 or 17 when I first heard it, and how I loved the theatricality of this band. It also makes me feel that anything is possible …
Coney Island – Van Morrison
My husband introduced me to this. It reminds me of our honeymoon, and later, after a long time apart on opposite sides of the world, of being together again, sharing many glorious times out and about in nature.
Eggardon Hill – Three Cane Whale
I’ve lived in Dorset twice in my life and this little gem by a Bristol-based group reminds me of that beautiful county, and of a special day out at Eggardon Hill itself.
The Lion and Albert – Stanley Holloway
This is my inheritance track. I knew it as a child and its cadences are so familiar. My Dad loved this and in his later years, when he was living with vascular dementia, listening to it together brought us a great deal of shared pleasure. When I hear this, I still see him chuckling away at the humour in it.
Ziggy Stardust – David Bowie
Clearly, I am a child of the 70s! Actually, every single David Bowie track would be on my playlist, but this particular one takes me back to the electric experience of seeing him live on the famous Aladdin Sane tour (at the Taunton Odeon), when I was a teenager. It’s one of the standout memories of my life.
