The first music I remember hearing as a child was on cassette tape in the early 1970’s; the Eagles, the Carpenters and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This song was one of my favourites, a counterculture classic, giving it to ‘the man’.
Come on Eileen – Dexys Midnight Runners
Come On Eileen, by Dexy’s, a No. 1 hit from 1982. For some unknown reason I came home from school at lunch time every Tuesday to hear who was top of the charts. I listed each one in a diary throughout the year. There were some crackers as well as some best forgotten.

I’m cheating here choosing two songs, but how can you separate them, and of course what can be better to raise the spirits than Father Ted, from which these songs are taken.
War on War – Wilco
This is a song my infant son and I ran around and around the settee to, many years ago. It’s still a great song, and Wilco contributed a song to the Spongebob Film, which was also a corker.
God’s Menu – Stray Kids
My daughter loves her music like I did at her age, but rather than 2 Tone, New Wave or Indie, her chosen potion is K-Pop. We both agree BTS are tops, but also agree that God’s Menu by Stray Kids is a cracker…
