Playlist for Life has won Charity of the Year (turnover under £500k) at the Scottish Charity Awards.
The award comes after a year of celebration for our 10th anniversary which was packed with awareness raising events that enabled us to support more people affected by dementia.
Run annually by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the Scottish Charity Awards celebrates the best of the voluntary sector. This year there were nearly 500 entries across the 10 categories.
2023 marked 10 years of Playlist for Life
Our work has always focussed on the person beyond their dementia, and our 10th anniversary year showcased this. We marked the occasion with a string of events and successes that cemented the simple but profound power of meaningful music for people living with dementia. In just 12 months we supported 60,000 people from all backgrounds; hosted a UK wide two-day music and dementia conference; produced a sold-out concert with headlining well-known Scottish artists and spearheaded our awareness campaign, National Playlist Day, which reached two million people.
Supporters say that using playlists – a simple but profound concept – has been ‘life-changing’.
Michael Timmons, Executive Director of Playlist for Life, said:
“To win small Charity of the Year for our 10th anniversary year is a great honour and to be recognised alongside so many amazing charities doing incredible work is very special.
We share this award with people living with dementia, their families, carers, and everyone who has supported Playlist for Life over the past decade to press play on the soundtrack of so many people’s lives. This award will help us reach more people with our simple message that personalised playlists can provide a lifeline for people living with dementia.”
Thank you to SCVO for this award and a wonderful awards night.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has supported Playlist for Life over the past 10 years. We share this award with all of you.
